Where to get HIPAA Training

HIPAA is short for the Health Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act of 1996. The Act stipulates the confidentiality of medical data. More precisely the law defines patient’s privacy right and security regulations regarding protected health information. The covered entity is required to comply with law and to train the employees. HIPAA training is a structured learning method where an instructor presents the compliance regulations. The classroom training is followed with an evaluation and a certificate is awarded. The certificate may be based on the test scores or a certificate of attendance may be presented.

This is not the only method of HIPAA training. There are online course that may be completed in a short time. Whether you decide on online courses or instructor led classes depends on the size of your staff. A small practice may need to just cover the basics and doesn’t have many people to train. So, the online method is more cost-effective. Large organizations have many people to train and more complex administrative and electronic medical records security issues. In this case, group training is a better option.
